Cheeky Kid

I’m just being cheeky:

On this song, this single, I’m switching things up from the somewhat consistent vibe of most of the rest of my music. I’m having a bit more fun and exposing to my listeners a different side of me.

I’m letting you in on my upbringing, I was a cheeky kid growing up but I’ve now evolved into a much-changed person. The person I am now can often be mistaken for something else - I consider myself to be genuine and so often people will try to box me as a nice guy/a rude guy/an arrogant guy/a quiet guy… I’m just myself. Often I’ve found my genuinity can be taken for granted, especially when people decide nah he’s just a nice guy.

This song, in which I discuss how I was a cheeky kid, runs on the quote “I am a lover, I’m not a fighter, but if you push me to the edge and you press my buttons, oh trust me, I will press your buttons” by Dr Ofori in Michael Dapaah’s SWIL. The episode referenced is aptly named: “You can’t bully me” and that’s the message I’m getting across in this song. “I was that Cheeky Kid, so you don’t want no beef with this”. All these man that try come at me with some off moves and bad intentions, it’s calm, you might have thought I’m just this one thing, I see your intentions and I’m well-versed in the art of asserting myself and handling my business and I’m getting that message/idea out in a fun and cheeky manner.

I’m can be cheeky yes. Do I resort to violence? No.

I feel, to gain control of situations people often resort to violence, this song is a reminder that there are other ways to take control of a situation and to gain an upper hand. Though yes, by all means, if the situation requires it, defend yourself.

Just be careful with that, have fun, and realise your actions have consequences.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, ALLOW PEOPLE TO TAKE YOU FOR GRANTED. RESPECT OTHERS BUT ALSO RESPECT YOURSELF.

Stay safe.
